Our Family Farming Day is usually a fun day of playing on the farm (best for younger children, but fun for all ages), pull weeds in the garden, pick watermellons or pumpkins (depending on what time of the year it is), gather eggs from the chicken house, romp and play with the sheep and goats, try milking a cow, horse or hay rides, make butter, and try some homemade ice cream. Two week advanced notice necessary to fit our schedule. Family Farm Days are done in late spring through fall. Remember these are outside activities, please dress appropriately, no sandles. Fee is $6.00 per person or $25.00 per family.
Cheesemaking Day 'From Cow to Table' everyone takes home some homemade mozzarella and gets to sample fresh milk, milk a cow and learns the process of making cheese. We need at least a 3 week advanced notice to have enough fresh cheese ready for the day of the tour. Recipes are available. Fee is $6.00 per person or $25.00 per family.
Soapmaking Day is the longest due to the time involved in making the soap and we need at least a month advanced notice to have soap ready for the day of the tour. Everyone who comes takes home homemade soap, makes homemade bath salts, participates in soap carving (bring your pocket knife), and learns the art of old fashioned homemade soapmaking (best for children over 8 years). Educational materials and recipes are available. Fee is $6.00 per person or $25.00 per family.
Yarn Making 'From Sheep to Yarn' (this activity includes a video of shearing the sheep), washing the yarn, carding, and spinning using drop spindles and a wheel, and a felting activity. Everyone will have samples of wool, spun yarn, and a felt project. Two week notice required. Fee is $6.00 per person or $25.00 per family.
In the spring you may come visit on shearing days and hang out with the new lambs, please email your interest in attending. We shear sheep on Sunday mornings.
Spring and Fall gardens are planted here on Shekinah Farm. Learn about raised beds, how to build them, plant them and maintain them with natural bug repellents, companion planting, and natural fertalizers. Learn about saving rain water, natural irrigation and seed saving. Educational materials provided. One week notice required. Fee is $2.00 per person or $10.00 per family.
Come for a meal! We will cook for you on the open fire (spring and fall only). Learn how to cook with dutch ovens.
