WELCOME TO OUR HOME!

Welcome to our home, Shekinah Farm, where we strive to build community on a very personal level, our family. In addition to a family community, we have become a 'way station' of sorts and have had many stay with us as Yehovah has directed. Some have come and stayed, others have moved on, and still others have gone to be with the Creator. The Father has given us this farm for a purpose, some of which is identified in our vision and mission statements, with more details to be revealed as the Father shows them to us. Please feel welcome here.

About our Farm:

Welcome to Shekinah Farm. A family farm and home to many animals and people! Richard “Satch” and Christie Berry are the owners and operators. We hope you enjoy your visit. First, an explanation of the name of our farm, Shekinah is a Hebrew word meaning Yehovah (G-d) dwells here. When we moved here we invited the Creator to dwell here with us, since it was He that made it possible for us to have our farm. We bought our place in November, 1999 and we are learning everyday about how things are on a farm and how to rely on the Father to get us through each day.

Shekinah Farm is a 9 acre gentleman's farm with a very small 4 bedroom brick home, barn, 7 fenced acres of pasture, field, and a pond. We are located in North Alabama about 3 miles south of the Tennessee border. Since moving here we have built a makeshift chicken house from scrap wood and used sheet metal, added storage buildings, a milking area in the barn, 2 travel trailers for visitors and interns, replaced our electric stove with a wood burning stove and a propane stove, and added homes for our family members. We are currently building on a summer kitchen and potting shed off the back of the house, increasing our vegetable growing areas, working on plans for a larger green house, and we continue to work toward being as self-sufficient (or reliant) as possible.

We have several dogs and cats living here.  We have 1 ½ horses (one is only half a horse), 3 milk cows, a bull and various calves running around. We have Cotswold and Romney sheep,  Sanaan goats, and a couple of breeding rabbits.  We keep anywhere from 12-20 chickens and bee hives.

In our gardens we have 10 small blueberry plants, 2 apple, 2 cherry, and 2 peach trees (all young). We have two garden areas, a kitchen garden out the back door, and a larger canning/CSA garden for growing extras. We also plant a large field area with sorghum and pumpkins for fall harvest and feed for the animals.

Our plans for the future include adding more fruit trees, building a larger greenhouse with a water catchment system, adding a run-in on the barn for the horses, and upgrading our intern living quarters among other things.
